Pottery classes in English, for beginners or more advanced hobby potters, on Wednesday or Thursday mornings, 9:30-12:30.

The classes are held in a light spacious studio in Buda, near Kolosy tér, and groups are kept small to allow for lots of one-to-one tuition. Focus is on creating pieces by hand-building, using  coiling  and slab-building techniques.

If you have never tried working with clay, this is a wonderful opportunity to work in small friendly international groups. Some students join for one term, or one year,  and some have been coming for 10 years! You can choose to come one morning each week or join both the Wednesday and Thursday sessions.

We work with a good quality white firing clay from Germany and use a variety of techniques for decorating, including impressed patterns,  majolica painting, burnishing, and have a choice of many glazes for achieving a good result.

 
The emphasis is not on mass production or making factory-like pieces, but on exploring each student’s intrinsic creative abilities, and on learning and developing .

In art, the excitment is in the process of the exploration. The journey itself, as well as the arrival!

Led by British-based ceramic artist Jutka Fischer who has 30 years’ experience of teaching pottery to both adults and children, as well as special needs groups, teacher training inset days, people in prisons and hospices, and workshop days for company managers, and more.

As well as teaching, Jutka is a renowned ceramic artist and her work has been shown internationally, including Japan, the Netherlands, Hungary, and the UK and is in many private as well as public collections world-wide.
