Courses for adults

Making a lamp
New students are set projects through which they learn basic techniques, such as making a slab-built mug,  jug and dish. These are usually followed by learning how to make coiled pots, starting with lamps which give lots of practice so the coils get better and better.

These "free-form" creations are followed by more classical coiled pots as students are by this  stage more proficient in making good coils (ropes of clay) and symmetrical, balanced pots. And each "learning" piece is a lovely work in its own right.

Students are encouraged and taught how to tackle the projects from start to finish, learning design principles, transferring drawings into three dimensional pieces, and seeing their creations through from concept to finished, glazed and fired pieces. With two kilns, we can fire to all temperatures, including porcelain.

Our groups come from all corners of the world and many have gone back to their country of origin and set up their own studios, and continue to enjoy making pots.
